High Hopes
by Scotty Collins 8th Grade

I'm standing on the edge of the dock,
in hopes of a bite.
I reel in my line and cast the bait out,
it sinks like a rock.
I don't want to stay on this chilly day,
but then there is a tug on the pole.
I pick up the rod and the line starts to bob,
so I start to reel it in.
The fish really fights hard,
I almost drop the pole;
I'm glad I came out even though it's this cold.
And then through the fog, I see something,
I pull it up and to my dismay, it was a log!
